Our Beliefs

We affirm the timeless truth of the Bible and are a Christ-centred, Bible-based, Spirit-led church. Our beliefs form the foundation of everything we do—from Sunday services to our youth and children’s ministries and our call to make disciples in our local community and beyond.

God

We believe in one true God—eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. Each person of the Trinity is fully God, equal in authority, glory, and power.

(Genesis 1:1, Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30, 2 Corinthians 13:14)

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, He lived a sinless life, performed miracles, and willingly gave Himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin. He rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will return in power and glory.

(Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, John 10:33, Hebrews 4:15, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Revelation 19:11-16)

The Holy Spirit

As a Spirit-led church near West Byfleet, we affirm the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. He indwells every believer, unites us into one multicultural Christian community in the UK, empowers holy living, and equips the Church with spiritual gifts for ministry and mission.

(1 Corinthians 3:16, Romans 8:9, Ephesians 1:13, Galatians 3:26-28)

The Bible

The Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God—our final authority in all matters of faith and conduct. As a Bible-teaching church in Surrey, we are committed to preaching the Gospel and upholding scriptural truth in all ministries, including life groups, youth ministry, and Sunday worship.

(2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Psalm 19:7-9)

Humanity

We believe all people are created in the image of God. Through Adam’s disobedience, humanity fell into sin, becoming spiritually separated from God. Only through Jesus Christ can this separation be restored.

(Genesis 1:26, Romans 3:10-18, Ephesians 2:1-3)

Christ’s Mission

Jesus came to reveal the Father and to save humanity. He alone is the way to salvation, reconciling us to God through His death and resurrection. As a mission-focused church near Woking, we follow His call to proclaim the Gospel and disciple all nations.

(John 14:6, Acts 4:12, 2 Corinthians 5:21)

Salvation

Salvation is a free gift of grace, received by faith in Jesus Christ. It cannot be earned, only accepted. Through faith, we are forgiven, spiritually reborn by the Holy Spirit, and adopted into God’s family.

(Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5, Romans 5:1-9, John 3:16-19)

The Church

The Church is the Body of Christ—a global and local expression of God’s family. As an independent Christian church in Surrey, we gather for worship, biblical teaching, fellowship, and mission. From children’s and youth ministries to Alpha Courses near Woking and men’s prayer breakfasts, we are committed to making disciples of all generations.

(Ephesians 1:22-23, Acts 2:42, Matthew 28:18-20)

Looking Back

Our History

In 1982 six families from the American Church in London (now the “American International Church in London”) wanted to start a mission church in Surrey. It was named the American Community Church. To reflect changes in membership and to make all nationalities welcome, in 1988 the name was changed to the “International Community Church.”

Over the years it has met in 8 different locations and has been led by 6 pastors including the current pastor John Basson. Due to different challenges like BREXIT, COVID and having to change venues, ICC finds itself in an exciting new season.

The church is staffed by a wonderful team of people from different nations – John and Tere Basson (SA). John and Emma Reid (SA) and Vicky Cannings (UK).. The leadership is made up of 5 Council members who are entrusted with the spiritual oversight of the church and the Trustees who oversee the finances.

The current makeup of the church includes people from different parts of the UK, North and South America, South Africa, Ukraine, South Korean, Mauritius, France, Portugal and Germany. We cherish the diversity which we feel reflect God’s Kingdom- our commonality being we are all apart of God’s family!

We are Christ centred, Bible-based and Spirit led, and believe in what Jesus taught when He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” We believe in the authority of God’s Word, which gives us the truth we need for life.

Looking Ahead

Our Vision

The vision of ICC is to be a church that truly loves God, loves one another, makes disciples, and serves our community. This vision reflects Jesus’ teaching to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbour as yourself. We are committed to being a Bible-based and Spirit-led church where each person in our church enjoys being part of a meaningful Christian community and is able to exercise using their spiritual gifts.

In the book of Acts, early followers of Jesus were called “believers,” “disciples,” or “followers of The Way.” The term “Christian” was originally used by those outside the church. Today, at ICC, we embrace what it means to be true Christ-centred believers in Surrey—people who believe Jesus is the Son of God, follow His teachings, and live obediently according to His Word.

Faith is not meant to be lived alone. At our family-friendly church in Surrey, spiritual growth thrives in community. We are called to walk together, as a multicultural and multi generational Christian community united in Christ. The Bible describes the church as a family—adopted into God’s family, with God as our Father, and all believers as brothers and sisters. No matter our backgrounds or nationalities, at ICC, we are one united family.
Our vision is to grow together in faith, guided by the Holy Spirit, reaching out with the Good News of the Kingdom, making disciples and actively serving our community. It’s through God’s guidance and our united efforts, we will fulfill this calling with love and devotion.
