Our History
In 1982 six families from the American Church in London (now the “American International Church in London”) wanted to start a mission church in Surrey. It was named the American Community Church. To reflect changes in membership and to make all nationalities welcome, in 1988 the name was changed to the “International Community Church.”
Over the years it has met in 8 different locations and has been led by 6 pastors including the current pastor John Basson. Due to different challenges like BREXIT, COVID and having to change venues, ICC finds itself in an exciting new season.
The church is staffed by a wonderful team of people from different nations – John and Tere Basson (SA). John and Emma Reid (SA) and Vicky Cannings (UK).. The leadership is made up of 5 Council members who are entrusted with the spiritual oversight of the church and the Trustees who oversee the finances.
The current makeup of the church includes people from different parts of the UK, North and South America, South Africa, Ukraine, South Korean, Mauritius, France, Portugal and Germany. We cherish the diversity which we feel reflect God’s Kingdom- our commonality being we are all apart of God’s family!
We are Christ centred, Bible-based and Spirit led, and believe in what Jesus taught when He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” We believe in the authority of God’s Word, which gives us the truth we need for life.
Our Vision
The vision of ICC is to be a church that truly loves God, loves one another, makes disciples, and serves our community. This vision reflects Jesus’ teaching to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbour as yourself. We are committed to being a Bible-based and Spirit-led church where each person in our church enjoys being part of a meaningful Christian community and is able to exercise using their spiritual gifts.
In the book of Acts, early followers of Jesus were called “believers,” “disciples,” or “followers of The Way.” The term “Christian” was originally used by those outside the church. Today, at ICC, we embrace what it means to be true Christ-centred believers in Surrey—people who believe Jesus is the Son of God, follow His teachings, and live obediently according to His Word.
Faith is not meant to be lived alone. At our family-friendly church in Surrey, spiritual growth thrives in community. We are called to walk together, as a multicultural and multi generational Christian community united in Christ. The Bible describes the church as a family—adopted into God’s family, with God as our Father, and all believers as brothers and sisters. No matter our backgrounds or nationalities, at ICC, we are one united family.
Our vision is to grow together in faith, guided by the Holy Spirit, reaching out with the Good News of the Kingdom, making disciples and actively serving our community. It’s through God’s guidance and our united efforts, we will fulfill this calling with love and devotion.
